I recently purchased a used Nikon V2 with two lenses on eBay for a great price. The V2 has a small sensor with a crop factor of X2.7, which really increases the length of my longer lenses. The image quality looks good in the lower ISO range, actually I'm impressed.</div>
<div style="color: #181818; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span class="full-image-block ssNonEditable" style="display: block;"><img alt="" mce_src="/storage/sunrise.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1404830869579" src="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/storage/sunrise.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1404830869579" style="border: 0px;" /></span></div>
<div style="color: #181818; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
I used my Nikon V2 yesterday on assignment shooting for an Oil & Gas company. The photo above was shot using my manual focus 300mm f/2.8 with a X2 converter. With a crop factor of 2.7, the focal length equals a 1620mm lens. Here is another image shot at sunset the night before.</div>
<div style="color: #181818; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">

<div style="color: #181818; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
My new Nikon V2 has earned a spot in my camera bag. Here is another image with just the 300mm on the V2, effective length of lens is 810mm. This was shot from the ground looking up to the deck of the drilling platform.</div>

It was held at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. The photo below was created to show how to produce a proper bounce technique.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGJwjgEFRn2PXO_F1HDNjhyZ-BhpSfW1DT8Kj4kXd-MVrlmZHh_7mWORL4_gw62RUGWl4Xz-gnVWWU92NH9l2vwdlZmLuTnRIU0mwokt-Gu-VmXFGHpxIWfAakSXEB3cqAyn6Guw/s1600/_DXT8111.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGJwjgEFRn2PXO_F1HDNjhyZ-BhpSfW1DT8Kj4kXd-MVrlmZHh_7mWORL4_gw62RUGWl4Xz-gnVWWU92NH9l2vwdlZmLuTnRIU0mwokt-Gu-VmXFGHpxIWfAakSXEB3cqAyn6Guw/s1600/_DXT8111.jpg" height="320" width="244" /></a></div>
<br />
The flash which produced the bounce was placed behind the subject on camera left. With a set of barndoors on the Nikon flash, I aimed the flash over the subject to the wall camera right. I allowed a small amount of light to strike the model, providing a small amount of rim. I also placed a flash at the end of the hallway we were shooting with a orange gel.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20182596.post-14069792397644702762014-01-06T17:53:00.001-07:002014-01-06T17:53:19.952-07:00High Speed Sync<span class="full-image-block ssNonEditable"><span><img alt="" height="215" src="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/storage/_DXT1528.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1384889128977" width="400" /></span></span><br />
My Austrian friend Eric turned me on to this interesting fact. If you
use a RadioPopper JRx receiver and a RadioPopper PX Transmitter
together, you can get high speed sync. The photo above was shot with
the following settings. Nikon D800, ISO 100, 24mm, 1/5000, f/2.8. I am
able to get high speed sync using my Lumedyne strobes as well as my new
FalconEyes SG-100.<br />
I pick up this FalconEyes SG-100 flash while teaching in Europe last month. You can see a complete review on this product <a href="http://www.lightingrumours.com/falcon-eyes-sg-100bk-big-flash-little-price-4169">HERE</a>.<br />
<span class="full-image-block ssNonEditable"><span><img alt="" height="266" src="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/storage/_DXT1533.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1384890391227" width="400" /></span></span><br />
Here is the lighting set up for the photo at the top of the page. The
battery for the FalconEyes SG-100 has two Sony batteries inside the
black box. It gives you a lot of pops.<br />
<span class="full-image-block ssNonEditable"><span><img alt="" height="266" src="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/storage/_DXT1538.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1384890589203" width="400" /></span></span><br />
You can see the RadioPopper Jrx hooked up to the FalconEyes SG-100.
This flash is not as powerful as my Lumedynes, I was able to get high
speed sync with the Lumedynes up to 1/8000. When my power setting on
the Lumedyne was full power, 800ws. At 1/8000 of a second at 800ws I
notice a very, very slight shading at the bottom of the frame.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20182596.post-9646783656511891682013-09-12T07:12:00.001-06:002013-09-12T07:12:56.169-06:00Chickens In The Studio<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">

<div style="color: #181818; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: #eeeeee;">Today I took my chickens into the studio for a few pictures. I wanted a clean white set up and a nice reflection under them. I used tile board for the surface the chickens are standing on, the white seamless reflects perfectly on the surface. Here are a few set up photos to show you how I put this together. You will notice that I placed some black panels to help minimize the possible flare from lighting a white background.</span></div>

<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: #eeeeee;">I used a beauty dish to light the chickens, the dish also had a sock over the face of it to soften the light a bit.</span></div>

<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: #eeeeee;"> The chicken show above is only a stand in. My wife once made diapers for chickens she sold at a county fair, Crazy! The next photos show the lighting of the background, one SB-800 on either side to light it evenly.</span></div>

<br />
For sometime now, I've been using a wonderful light modifier I picked up at <a href="http://www.cowboystudio.com/product_p/speedlite%20bd-honey.htm" target="_blank">Cowboy Studio</a>. I bought a 22" beauty dish which came with a diffusion sock and grid about a year ago. The beauty dish has a wonderful look to it, sort of hard and soft at the same time.<br />
<br />
The photograph above is of my friend Chris, he needed some corporate head shots and I wanted to do something for myself. I used the beauty dish with the honeycomb grid, this is the only light used for this portrait. The light on the background is the fall off of the main light. I had Chris stand about two feet in front of a piece of fabric I bought at a local fabric store. <br />
<br />
These <a href="http://www.cowboystudio.com/product_p/speedlite%20bd-honey.htm" target="_blank">Beauty Dishes</a> are designed for Speedlight shooters. I really only use it around town as traveling with it can be a problem because of it's size. These are really inexpensive, under a $100 dollars! <br /></div>
<span style="color: #eeeeee;">I've been shooting for my friend Marti for quite sometime now. I met Marti about 13 years of so ago when she work at a local energy company. I shot there annual report and since that time have remained friends.</span><br />
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: #eeeeee;">Marti has changed employers several times since our first meeting, because of your friendship I have been able to continue providing photography where ever she has moved. In any business, turning a customer into a client is key.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: #eeeeee;">I have several clients that I've worked with over a period of years and years. Many of those folks, I have never met personally. Face it, there are tons of photographers out there that know what their doing (photographically). I can tell you from personal experience, that if your a decent person and provide great service you'll have clients for years.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: #eeeeee;">I have another friend (client), named Mark. I have worked with Mark for that many years. As a matter of fact, we have know each other of about 30 years. We've traveled on assignment together and have had tons of laughs together. I cherish my working relationships and you should too. I know you most likely have heard this statement before, believe me it's true. I so much easier to keep a client then to find a new one!</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: #eeeeee;">Take care and nurture the relationships you have, really. The photo of the bolt above illustrates something important to me regarding this subject of relationships.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: #eeeeee;">Late last year I was shooting with Marti somewhere in West Virginia, I was working on her annual report shooting various Oil & Gas type stuff. We were on site at a well head shooting an employee with his truck checking on things. While walking back to the rental car, Marti spotted a bolt on the ground and asked if I would mind shooting that for her. The first thing out of my mouth was, "You bet Martie, something for your wall?" She stopped, looked at me and said, "You know what I love about you David? Most anyone else would have said your crazy Marti, but you just go with the flow and ... something like that" I could have very easily said your nuts and walked on, it's all about the client. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: #eeeeee;">Here are a few more images shot for Marti on this particular assignment. Hope you enjoy. DT</span></div>

<br />
This is a screen shot of what I would call a cheap shot! Adorama Camera store in NY is sponsoring a workshop with a very similar title to my series of workshops called Small Strobes, Big Results.<br />
<br />
This was brought to my attention by a person named "A Concerned Citizen" Thanks for bring this to my attention.<br />
<br />
I started Small Strobes, Big Results back in 2008, I have worked hard to built my branding. I absolutely think Adorama is trying to benefit from this hard work. Shame on you Adorama! I have taught Small Strobes, Big Results all over the world. I teach at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, Maine Media Workshops, GPP (Dubai), Private workshops in Saudi Arabia, Manila, and Austria.<br />
<br />
I've sent an email to Adorama, I'm hoping they might reconsider the naming of there up coming workshop. Your thoughts? DT<br />

They've changed the title of his workshop to Shooting Action Sports and Portraits with Speedlites. I want to thank Adorama for the fast resolution regarding my concerns about this issue, your a stand up group. Thanks.</span><br />

<br />
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: #f3f3f3;">I did a post about <a href="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/blog/2012/10/13/shooting-is-small-spaces.html" mce_href="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/blog/2012/10/13/shooting-is-small-spaces.html">Shooting in Small Spaces</a> a while back. I thought I'd pass along another solution when confronted with such an issue. In August this past year I shot an assignment for a local mining company. I spent the day in their Denver offices and a two day trip to Nevada for some site photography.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: #f3f3f3;">Another solution to shooting in a small office space is to shoot into it, as though your were eavesdropping on your subjects. My client wanted a photograph of two geologist working together looking at maps. I noticed when walking through their offices this one space where the drafting table was positioned near the door in this office.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: #f3f3f3;">The drafting table had lights inside of it which I used as my main or key light. I added a small amount of light bounced off the ceiling in the back of the room. I used an SB-800 fitted with a full CTB (Color Temperture Blue) gel over the flash tube. The power was set low enough as to not over power the light in the desk and just high enough to open the shadows in the back of the room.</span></div>

I wanted to remind my readers that I'll be in San Antonio with Dave Black teaching a Mentor Series Trek. This workshop is all about leaning how to use your Speedlighs both on camera and off. You'll learn all about how to control your flash remotely and well as how to use modifiers light softboxes, umbrellas and grids. This is a great hands on workshop that should not be missed. <br />
<br />
This workshop has a few spaces left, it is being held on February 21-24th. Contact the Mentor Series for details. <a href="http://www.mentorseries.com/treks/2013/san-antonio-nikon-speedlight-flash-class-2013">http://www.mentorseries.com/treks/2013/san-antonio-nikon-speedlight-flash-class-2013</a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20182596.post-52088083291671561022013-01-07T16:14:00.000-07:002013-01-21T10:18:16.192-07:00Freezing My Ass Off<br />

<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: white;">Let me start off by wishing everyone a very Happy New Year. I hope you're able to use this new year to learn and grow with all your photographic endeavors. I start off each year like a lot of you, clearing files out and making new ones. Trying to get more organized not only with image files but also those business file... I just hate it.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: white;">I had the opportunity to do some personal shooting just before the Christmas holiday. Near my home we have a place called Chatfield Reservoir, I canoe there quite often with my wife during the season. Anyway, I headed off to Chatfield to make a few clicks just before sunset. We had a winter storm heading into the area and the skies were looking really crazy.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: white;">I drive around the Chatfield park slowly, looking for photo opportunities as the weather shifts. Sun darts in and out between clouds as I look for subject matter. Chatfield Reservoir is very close to the foothills just south of Denver. The reservoir is close to the foothills and the sunsets early and fast, particularly in the winter months. When I arrived the clouds were thick and it looked like I was going to get shut out for the day.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: white;">Let's start off with the first scene I came across that late afternoon in Dec.</span></div>
<div style="color: #181818; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span class="full-image-block ssNonEditable" style="display: block;"><img alt="" height="309" mce_src="/storage/ChatfieldHorz-2.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357162437108" src="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/storage/ChatfieldHorz-2.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357162437108" style="border: 0px;" width="400" /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: white;">I had passed this tree earlier when the sky was darker and there was no seperation between tree and sky. My second pass was when the sky opened, and this was the first shot of the day. I made several variations of this scene, I then walked over to the tree for a possible lower angle shot when I saw the sky to the south with the road in the scene.</span></div>
<div style="color: #181818; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span class="full-image-block ssNonEditable" style="display: block;"><img alt="" height="400" mce_src="/storage/ChatfieldVert-2.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357162713256" src="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/storage/ChatfieldVert-2.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357162713256" style="border: 0px;" width="309" /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: white;">I made a few bracketed shots and produce the HDR image below, I used HDR Efex Pro 2 for the processing.</span></div>
<div style="color: #181818; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span class="full-image-block ssNonEditable" style="display: block;"><img alt="" height="400" mce_src="/storage/ChatfieldVert-1.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357162827630" src="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/storage/ChatfieldVert-1.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357162827630" style="border: 0px;" width="309" /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: white;">I kinda like! I then drove down the road you see above and at the end there was a wonderful group of trees.</span></div>
<div style="color: #181818; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span class="full-image-block ssNonEditable" style="display: block;"><img alt="" height="400" mce_src="/storage/ChatfieldVert-3.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357163231845" src="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/storage/ChatfieldVert-3.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357163231845" style="border: 0px;" width="309" /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: white;">I also took the time to shoot several variations both vertical and horizontal. I then drove further east away from the foothills, this gave me a larger view of the front range. I had some nice views and a few more trees to work with.</span></div>
<div style="color: #181818; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span class="full-image-block ssNonEditable" style="display: block;"><img alt="" height="309" mce_src="/storage/ChatfieldHorz-3.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357163419642" src="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/storage/ChatfieldHorz-3.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357163419642" style="border: 0px;" width="400" /></span></div>
<div style="color: #181818; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span class="full-image-block ssNonEditable" style="display: block;"><img alt="" height="400" mce_src="/storage/ChatfieldVert-4.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357163456404" src="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/storage/ChatfieldVert-4.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357163456404" style="border: 0px;" width="309" /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: white;">About a week earlier I was driving through the park looking for shots and basically got shut out. I didn't really have any light to speak of and drove home without making a shot. While driving home outside of the park, the sky started to get interesting. The further east I drove the more the clouds seem to light up, soft pink light reflecting off the clouds.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: white;">I was looking frantically for something to photograph using this light and the clouds. I pass this little pond on my to Chatfield Reservoir every time I drive there, I've seen this pond for years and have always thought there was a possible photograph to be had if the circumstances were right. Boy was I right, here are two variations, one color the other Black and White.</span></div>
<div style="color: #181818; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span class="full-image-block ssNonEditable" style="display: block;"><img alt="" height="309" mce_src="/storage/Pond-2.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357165011031" src="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/storage/Pond-2.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357165011031" style="border: 0px;" width="400" /></span></div>
<div style="color: #181818; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span class="full-image-block ssNonEditable" style="display: block;"><img alt="" height="309" mce_src="/storage/Pond-1.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357165044832" src="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/storage/Pond-1.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1357165044832" style="border: 0px;" width="400" /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: white;">This outing was totally worth my effort, an hour of my time and right in my back door so to speak. I plan on making more time for shooting for myself, you should do the same. We get busy with life and sometime forget to treat ourselves and just explore and have fun.</span></div>

Manila is a fascinating place, busy for sure! Traffic jams the likes I've never seen before, and a metro population of about 11 million people.<br />
<br />
While in Manila, my host Tony Tan arranged for me to gain access to a roof top of Metro Bank in central Manila (Makati City). Here are a few city views from that vantage point.<br />
<br />

Here is one of the photo taken during the SSBR workshop. I photographed Pamela Tan in this really cool old Wells Fargo Stage Coach. The lighting was pretty straight forward. 2 Speedlights used, the key light was an SB-800 with barndoors attached and the second was straight flash to fill the inside of the coach.<br />

<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: white;">We all have to shoot in small office spaces from time to time. A small office does not mean you can't create a photograph that has some mood to it. I was shooting for a large energy company in Denver several years back and made this photo.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: white;">I used 3 lights for this shot. I had 2 lights with grids directed on the walls, one on the left wall and the other near the center of the wall behind my subject. The third light, the main or key light was a small softbox feathered toward the lens. Feathering the light prevented filling the entire room with light and killing the effect of the grided light on the wall. DT</span></div>

<br />
This past weekend was another SSBR workshop in Denver. My model was a wonderful young lady named Alexa. In this photo, I placed Alexa right next to an inside window. I taped a sheet of ripstop nylon to the outside of the window, and shot my SB-800 through the nylon sheet. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgONH0EPuSNEOiC40sBdVQ49p5539BqAUI3o1E_oqJ-OVAailgo-5CBzpA9DKrcRjXoILe0dNDkL0OAurIwZzhtxr_GbA0uB2NnoUv-YDsFWRG_8rfvGD1pRzpMVq59_7nYxbaeBg/s1600/Alexa2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgONH0EPuSNEOiC40sBdVQ49p5539BqAUI3o1E_oqJ-OVAailgo-5CBzpA9DKrcRjXoILe0dNDkL0OAurIwZzhtxr_GbA0uB2NnoUv-YDsFWRG_8rfvGD1pRzpMVq59_7nYxbaeBg/s320/Alexa2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Here Alexa lit using one SB-800 fitted with a full cut CTO gel on the flash head, simulating late afternoon sunlight. I projected the flash through a acetate I painted with patterned leafs, this produces a nice dapple effect on the wall.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
In this last photo, Alexa put on a football uniform and I did a 4 light sports look. The key light is a FourSquare™ with one SB-800, 2 SB-800's with grids fitted with a full CTO giving me some warmth on the kicker. I have one last SB-800 directed on the wall just behind her. DT<br />

Available light can be so beautiful! My son Chris asked if I could take some photos of his girlfriend for her senior photos. This is Lauren. I spent a few hours with the two of them shooting in various location close to home. Her parents wanted a few shots around their home and I had a few locations in mind as well.<br />
<br />
I took the above photo of Lauren on an enclosed patio at the Highlands Ranch Mansion which is close to my home. There was an open arch on camera left and another to the rear and right. Look like it was studio lit to me, sometimes you get really lucky with a location.<br />

The photo above was shot under threatening skies, periodic showers would interrupt our scheduled shoot by my pond. I placed an SB-800 back by the fence fitted with a full CTO gel on it to simulate late afternoon light. Lauren is lit by a <a href="http://www.lightwaredirect.com/" target="_blank">FourSquare</a> with a few SB-800's inside.<br />

Here I placed Lauren on the shady side of a tree at the H.R. Mansion, Chris is holding the <a href="http://www.lightwaredirect.com/" target="_blank">FourSquare</a> on camera right. My exposure is based on the ambient and then under exposed. The flash is used to pull the subject out of silhouette.<br />

This last photo was taken with available light at her parents house. An older daughter was photographed in the backyard and Lauren's mother wanted one shot there as well. This is only the second Senior photo I've taken, both as favors. I had a wonderful time photographing Lauren, Chris really like it as well.<br />

<br />
A few weeks back, I was shooting for a client at a location in Summit County, near Winter Park Ski Resort. After the shoot, I took a few extra hours with my assistant John and photographed some moving water on a local stream. My exposure was f/20 at 2 seconds. <br />
<br />
We had an opportunity to move around the stream a bit and managed to get a few additional images. Let's take a look at a few of them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsJjSE9gI0UVpkteAjpgcLMVokR2tHdvDrVaodLi3TI1JM5DQkbSUN0IlEZEoNIrJmm0Ju4XMHeVcyx7Zt2b4f00usHpModsFElnFavARh_V3ht40xG5NwbieF53YmOf1ex7ntAw/s1600/Stream4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsJjSE9gI0UVpkteAjpgcLMVokR2tHdvDrVaodLi3TI1JM5DQkbSUN0IlEZEoNIrJmm0Ju4XMHeVcyx7Zt2b4f00usHpModsFElnFavARh_V3ht40xG5NwbieF53YmOf1ex7ntAw/s320/Stream4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I cooled down the color temp of the water portion of the photo, Perhaps a bit to much... Your thoughts? The exposure was f/16 at 1/4 second.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg52yQwpZ2h8krMt0Nd_IwHg4g5CvblzEsZjfVkXFfw56xd6AckInOCos2ciyUyu88fomTtzcgxcSSw60GnJ_JJXz_BKIuxilRbt2LSF9BROizc8jTIT3KJOVOJ2LZjsKMz1QcA2Q/s1600/Stream3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg52yQwpZ2h8krMt0Nd_IwHg4g5CvblzEsZjfVkXFfw56xd6AckInOCos2ciyUyu88fomTtzcgxcSSw60GnJ_JJXz_BKIuxilRbt2LSF9BROizc8jTIT3KJOVOJ2LZjsKMz1QcA2Q/s320/Stream3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's another view of the same stream. The exposure on this one is f/22 at 1 second.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZgB5gxCK8am_wkTflIEkzG7t1C2t1OwEYsKfEugEmkaBEQNKI5XMUUn3-qx4QXBMxQ4bMvYdw4v0bXAnDzQ9XrjN7_LqeYgMzfj5QSs6IeI9JBtpecFV63YiyaULsUCjX_6dNDQ/s1600/Stream2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZgB5gxCK8am_wkTflIEkzG7t1C2t1OwEYsKfEugEmkaBEQNKI5XMUUn3-qx4QXBMxQ4bMvYdw4v0bXAnDzQ9XrjN7_LqeYgMzfj5QSs6IeI9JBtpecFV63YiyaULsUCjX_6dNDQ/s320/Stream2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is the last image of the same stream just a bit further down stream. The exposure here was f/22 at 1/4 second. I love slow exposures when shooting moving water. I carry a few ND (neutral density) filters in my bag just in case I need to reduce the exposure for a longer shutter speed. Today is the first Friday of the month and in Denver, that means Gallery Night. For many years now, Denver has had this event called First Friday. Each month on the first Friday in the art district on Santa Fe Drive, galleries open their doors to crowds ranging between 3500- 5000 people. Apparently, it is quite the social thing, I say apparently because I have never been to one of these events.<br />
<br />
I decided to participant in my first First Friday, and tonight is that night. I have put together a collection of my personal work for sale at Studio One at 802 Santa Fe Drive in Denver. These images include cell phone photos as well as DSLR, personal work created on assignment or during my personal travels.<br />
<br />
My wall consists of 31 images, framed in a 10.5 inch square frame. These are Epson prints produced from my Epson 3800. I'm looking forward to this evening and I hope that my personal work resonates with the viewer.<br />
<br />
I might also mention that I still have a few spaces available for the Denver Small Strobe, Big Results Workshop on August 18th. For more information and registration click <a href="http://www.smallstrobesbigresults.com/Denver/" target="_blank">HERE</a>.<br />

There is one modifier that I do not leave home without, I always carry a large sheet of Ripstop Nylon. You would also carry a large bed sheet, I just think a sheet has to much weight. <br />
<br />
With a large diffusion sheet be it a bed sheet or nylon fabric, you can shoot your strobes through it or even bounce you light off of it. In the photo above, I simply taped the nylon sheet to a window and shot my SB-800 through it. Soft beautiful light.<br />
<br />
If your shooting inside where direct sunlight is streaming through a window, you can use this same sheet to diffuse that harsh light. I will often in narrow hallways, tape this sheet to the door frame of an office. <a href="http://davidtejada.blogspot.com/2010/04/doorway-softbox.html" target="_blank">Here is an older post regarding that use</a>.<br />

allowing me to try out some new lighting techniques. This portrait was
shot using two SB-800's, one in a 22" beautiy dish and the other inside a
super large softbox.<br />
The progression of this portrait is shown below. The first image on
the left is with the beautiy dish by it self, the center is with some
fill (too much), and the last image is with the amount of fill I settled
on.<span class="full-image-block ssNonEditable"><img alt="" src="http://davidtejada.squarespace.com/storage/Chris%20BW.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1338561266120" style="width: 360px;" /></span><br />

The fill that used in this portrait was a super large softbox (4' X
6'). In the detail photo below you can see my silhouette in front of the
softbox.<br />

It's nice to have some time at home to shoot for myself and practice
with my lights. I really think of my small studio space in my home as my
laboratory to work out different lighting scenarios. I am constantly
telling my workshop participants that you need to practice with your
lights, I've been shooting for 30 years and I still practice with my
lights when not working.<br />
I'll be at the University of Miami in Ohio later this month
conducting 3 workshops for the UPAA. I also have some space available in
my August 18th Small Strobes, Big Results workshop in Denver. For more

I received an email from my friend Quest Couch last week, Quest is the CEO of LumiQuest. LumiQuest as you know, makes all those really cool light modifiers that I and so many of you use on a daily basis.<br />
<br />
Quest has created a campaign in support of intellectual property rights. As a creative individual, I'm in full support of Quests efforts. He has put a website together devoted to this effort, you can learn more about Quest's campaign for the protection of intellectual property rights at <a href="http://www.questforrights.org/index.html" target="_blank">QuestForRights</a>. As creative individuals, we all understand the importance of protecting our creative efforts whether it's our photographs, product we developed or whatever intellectual property you've put forth.<br />
<br />
It has been said that "imitation" is a form of flattery. I'm all for competition in the market place, it creates innovation and improved products for the consumer. However, the outright theft of intellectual property by lazy individuals or companies is unethical and illegal. Doing so, only produces <u>cheap</u> unifier products and stifles innovation. For me, I'm in support of the "Real McCoy"<br />
